Islamic Treasury and Trade Finance Specialist
Mr. Umar Farooq is a certified Islamic Treasury and Trade Finance professional. He has over 20 years of experience working with development agencies and financial institutions on three continents. Umar holds a Master’s in Finance (MFin) Degree from Queen’s University, Canada, and Islamic Banking Diplomas from the Center of Islamic Economics (CIE) and the National Institute of Banking and Finance (NIBAF). Founder of the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC), UAE Banking Commission, and part of the core team that introduced United Bank Ltd, Islamic Banking (UBL – Ameen). In UBL Ameen, he has worked in various senior positions, including most recently as Regional Business Head for Treasury, Corporate Banking, Liability sales, Trade Finance, and Cash Management. He also led the Client Service unit of the Global Trade Finance Department for a major Canadian Bank (CIBC). Umar has facilitated numerous trainings on Islamic and Trade Finance with ICC, the Institute of Bankers Pakistan (IBP), and banks in Pakistan, the UAE, and Canada.
